London and ABCs

Finally I'm back in this space, I'm sorry it took me so long! We were in London for a few days during our holiday and then we went to Germany. We had a good time and a jam-packed schedule, so when we came back and I started work again, I noticed I hadn't really wound down much. So that's what I've been doing during my free time in the last couple of weeks: not much ... Ok, what I've been doing much of was watching TV ...



Above you can see my favourite pic from London. J. took it at the Millennium Bridge and that's my fuzzy head there in the centre. We walked a lot and our favourite afternoons were those spent at the Thames.



We liked the atmosphere and mixture of architectural styles and since we're living so close to the sea here in Helsinki, I guess we're always drawn a bit to water ...



I don't have any special tips for London, but I really liked this little garden on the site of a church that was destroyed in WWII. It's name is Christchurch Greyfriars Garden and it's not far from St. Paul's. It is really pretty and such a nice surprise in the middle of a business area.



I really like the way the layout of the garden hints at the original architecture of the church.



Of course, I also had to drag J. to Liberty where I had a hard time to limit myself to only three different prints. I really liked the department store and think it has a lot more charm than Harrods, which I found mostly oppressing ...

And now to the TV-watching ... I "found" two new (to me) BBC versions of classics of English literature and both really impressed me. The first was recommended to me by a friend and it's the 2009 version of Emma, starring Romola Garai and Jonny Lee Miller. It is now my favourite adaptation of Emma and I love the natural and fresh acting and the arguments between Emma and Mr Knightley were so funny! Also, it has probably the most beautiful dance scene, ever!!!

The second adaptation I came across when I looked up information on the screenwriter of Emma, Sandy Welch, and found she had also written the script to BBC's North and South. The atmosphere and setting of this Elizabeth Gaskell adaptation couldn't be much more different from Emma, but the series is very beautiful and beautifully acted, too. And this one features the most beautiful kiss in TV history, in my opinion. And then there's Richard Armitage ... I really recommend both series for long autumn evenings which are sure to come!

In respect to craftiness, I don't have much to show for my time at the moment ... I've started working on the Daisychain ABCs emroidery sampler kit I ordered from Alicia Paulson's webshop some time ago.



I'm really enjoying following someone else's design and stitching away slowly, at the sametime cooking up ideas for future projects. I already have some things lined up that I want to start soon, and I hope I'll be able to show you something next week!
